Federal prosecutors allege Big Blue Umbrella executive misrepresented the charity to obtain a county-funded grant

Federal prosecutors charged CEO and executive director Donye Mitchell, also known as Danya Mitchell, with wire fraud. The complaint alleges that Mitchell misrepresented Big Blue Umbrella's experience and partnerships while seeking more than $9 million and securing an award of more than $1.2 million from Amity Foundation. Prosecutors allege that approximately $315,000 was disbursed and used for personal expenses including bail costs, credit-card debt, family transfers, rent and PlayStation charges. The charge remains an allegation, and Mitchell is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
