DOJ says AIDS Healthcare Foundation agreed to pay $1.44 million to settle Medicare Advantage coding allegations

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that AIDS Healthcare Foundation agreed to pay $1.44 million to resolve allegations that it submitted, or failed to delete, inaccurate or unsupported diagnosis codes that increased its Medicare Advantage payments. DOJ said some questioned codes remained until 2024 or 2025, after the organization had notice of possible documentation problems. The settlement resolves civil allegations only and contains no determination of liability.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The settlement concerns the accuracy of information used to calculate federal health-program payments. Donors may want to understand the underlying control failures, remediation and whether the organization has strengthened its diagnosis-code review and correction procedures.
