Florida appeals court orders report alleging Hope Florida funding was misappropriated expunged

Florida’s First District Court of Appeal ordered the entire grand-jury report concerning the Hope Florida Foundation expunged. As reported by WUSF and the News Service of Florida, the court rejected the report’s conclusion that a $10 million payment to the foundation was illegally diverted public money and held that the grand jury exceeded its authority by accusing identified participants of criminal-like wrongdoing after finding insufficient evidence to indict anyone. The ruling also cited improper disclosure of the confidential report.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The decision is a significant final outcome for widely reported allegations involving a $10 million payment to the charity. It removes the grand-jury report from the court record and rejects its principal legal theory, while not necessarily resolving every governance, tax or campaign-finance question associated with later transfers.

Who reported or established this

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently reviewed the complete appellate docket or established whether every grant, political transfer, tax issue or governance practice connected to the underlying transactions complied with applicable law. No criminal indictment resulted from the grand-jury investigation.
