Southeast Childhood Collective received funding for hospital-worker child care and two program expansions

KTOO reported that Southeast Childhood Collective received approximately $215,000 to develop child care tailored to Bartlett Regional Hospital employees’ nontraditional schedules. The nonprofit also received more than $150,000 to expand its Parents as Teachers services during the first three months after birth and roughly $230,000 to expand its early-childhood educator apprenticeship program.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

If implemented, the projects would expand support for new parents, increase the early-childhood workforce and address child-care barriers that reportedly affect hospital staffing and retention in Juneau.

What remains unverified

No Halo has not established when the hospital child-care program will open, its final capacity or hours, whether required agreements will be completed, or what measurable results the three expansions will produce.

Right of reply

Organization response

The Collective said it would survey employee needs, design hours around hospital shifts, negotiate agreements with the hospital and provider, and avoid displacing families already served by the potential child-care partner.
