King County reports Shelter America Group opened 41 affordable homes on Vashon Island
Shelter America Group sponsored the newly opened Creekside Village, a 41-unit affordable-housing development on Vashon Island, according to King County. The development contains 11 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom apartments for households earning no more than 50% or 60% of area median income. About 70% of the homes are reserved for households at or below the 50% threshold. King County and county-sponsored state infrastructure funding supplied $8.375 million. The site includes shared spaces, a playground, a community garden and access to services through Vashon Youth and Family Services.
Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.
Donor relevance
Why this matters
The project adds family-sized affordable rentals in a rural island community where limited infrastructure, scarce rental housing and rising costs have made development unusually difficult. Public funding and income restrictions provide stronger evidence of intended public benefit than a routine market-rate opening.
