PeaceHealth plans 150 information-technology layoffs as employees raise service-disruption concerns

Cascadia Daily News reported that nonprofit health system PeaceHealth will eliminate 150 information-technology positions systemwide, including 17 in Bellingham and four in Sedro-Woolley, as it outsources most IT services under a five-year contract. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect November 20. Employees told the newspaper they were concerned the transition could slow responses to issues involving the Epic electronic medical-record system; no disruption was reported as having occurred.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

Information systems support medical records and clinical operations across PeaceHealth hospitals and clinics. A large outsourcing transition could affect service reliability, although the consulted reporting did not document an actual patient-care interruption.
