Comprehensive Life Resources says it will close a 27-bed youth treatment program after losses and outcome concerns
Comprehensive Life Resources plans to close Pearl Youth Residence in Tacoma, a long-term inpatient behavioral-health program for youth ages 12 through 17. Reporting based on a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification said 92 permanent layoffs are expected on November 21. The nonprofit cited roughly $3 million in operating losses since 2020, low use by Pierce County residents and outcomes that it said were not meeting its goals.

Right of reply
Organization response
Comprehensive Life Resources said the closure would let it focus more resources on Pierce County. It cited operating losses, the small share of Pearl clients from Pierce County, the concentration of major youth inpatient facilities in one area and outcomes it said were below what youths deserved. It encouraged affected employees to seek other positions within the organization.
