Accelerate reports tighter controls and mandatory public reporting for education-impact studies

Accelerate said it changed how it manages studies after encountering problems when tutoring grantees selected their own research partners. The nonprofit now matches grantees with research partners, requires early ethics and data-sharing milestones, uses common data standards and ties payments to defined research deliverables. Accelerate also said final reports must be posted openly whether findings are positive, mixed, negative or null, and that all interim and final reports from randomized trials launched with its 2024-25 cohort were submitted by their deadlines.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The changes address common risks in charity-funded research, including evaluator selection, stalled data agreements, inconsistent records and nonpublication of unfavorable results. If followed consistently, the model could produce more useful evidence about tutoring and education technology.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

Accelerate Managing Director Kimberly Ueyama described the earlier research-management problems, the corrective measures and the reported on-time submission record.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently reviewed every study, tested evaluator independence, confirmed that all reports were complete and publicly accessible, or assessed whether the changes improved research quality or student outcomes.

Right of reply

Organization response

Accelerate acknowledged that earlier arrangements created unexpected challenges and said the new controls are intended to produce objective, timely and transparent findings. It also said transparency remains a work in progress.
