Minnesota attorney general alleges Refocus Recovery was used as a passthrough for founder-linked companies
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison filed a civil lawsuit alleging that Refocus Recovery lacked effective board control, failed to maintain proper records, disregarded conflicts of interest and diverted charitable resources to for-profit Kyros companies controlled by founder and former executive director Daniel Larson. The complaint alleges that backdated contracts allowed most of the nonprofit's operations and revenue to be outsourced for Larson's benefit. These are civil allegations and have not been adjudicated.
