Pittie Project PNW founder charged with 30 animal-cruelty counts after authorities removed dogs

KIRO 7 reported that Pittie Project PNW founder and director Ashley Georgia was charged with 30 counts of first-degree animal cruelty after authorities and volunteers removed about 30 dogs from a property used by the rescue. According to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office, investigators observed dogs that were underweight, wounded and living in unsanitary conditions without apparent adequate access to food or water. The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The allegations concern the core animal-care program of a charity whose stated purpose is rescue and rehabilitation. The removal of the dogs interrupted the organization's services and transferred substantial treatment responsibilities to the Whatcom Humane Society.
