Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley reported staff cuts and possible service reductions amid a funding crisis

The Denver Gazette reported that the Longmont domestic-violence nonprofit was at risk of closing after declining donations, federal funding disruptions, higher operating costs and demand that the executive director said had doubled from the prior year. Three staff positions had been eliminated by late September. The charity warned that without additional support it could reduce services and turn away people facing danger.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The organization provides shelter, a round-the-clock crisis line and other services for survivors of domestic violence, trafficking and related abuse. Staff losses or service reductions could directly limit access to safety assistance while reported demand is increasing.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not audited the charity's current finances, established its unrestricted cash position, confirmed a closure date or determined how many clients have already been denied or delayed services.

Right of reply

Organization response

Safe Shelter said it was seeking $295,000 by year-end and developing a sustainability plan. It said recent community support would help stabilize operations but that stabilization alone would not ensure long-term sustainability.
