WIRED reported Center for Humane Technology was laying off most staff and shifting to founder-led work

WIRED reported that the Center for Humane Technology was eliminating about half of its 16 non-founder positions, with nine departures including Executive Director Julie Guirado. The nonprofit was ending policy research and litigation work to concentrate on projects led by its founders. The contraction followed reported internal disagreements over strategy, although the organization had also recently contributed to significant legal and policy pressure on social-media companies.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

Losing roughly half the non-founder workforce and discontinuing policy and litigation programs materially changes the organization’s capacity, governance structure and strategy despite evidence that some of its prior work was producing results.
