Flagler County's only cold-weather shelter considers replacement sites after losing its former location

FlaglerLive reported that Flagler County Family Assistance Center, doing business as The Sheltering Tree, was considering offers to operate its seasonal cold-weather shelter at a new county fairgrounds hall or a Flagler Beach church. The volunteer-run charity lost access to its previous Bunnell location in March. County and municipal governments also agreed to provide joint financial support, but no final location agreement had been completed.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The Sheltering Tree operates Flagler County's only shelter that opens when temperatures are forecast at or below 40 degrees. Securing a replacement site before cold weather is material to service continuity, while the proposed fairgrounds site would add kitchen, laundry and shower access.
