Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio says new funding will keep its East Side clubhouse open

Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio said up to $350,000 approved through San Antonio's Inner City Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone, together with private donations, will keep its East Side clubhouse operating for another year. The site serves 68 registered children and had previously been scheduled to pause programming. The charity said it now has roughly a year of operating runway across its mission, although its Rayburn clubhouse closed and Harlandale Independent School District programming is ending.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The funding prevents an immediate service interruption for East Side families, but it does not reverse every contraction. One clubhouse closed, another school-based program is ending and the organization remains in a financial and operational restructuring period.

Who reported or established this

A Boys & Girls Club spokesperson and chief executive Debbie Powell described the organization's finances and sustainability plan. KSAT reported the TIRZ board action, private support and remaining program closures.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently audited the claimed one-year operating runway, confirmed the amounts or restrictions of private donations, reviewed all conditions attached to the city funding, or established that the restructuring will provide long-term financial stability.

Right of reply

Organization response

Powell said the charity created a right-sized plan centered on families and intends to form a community council to shape future programming. The organization said affected children from discontinued services are being directed into school-district after-school programs.
