Planned Parenthood asks court to block Tennessee attorney general's records demand, calling the investigation unlawful

Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi petitioned Davidson County Chancery Court to set aside or narrow a Tennessee Attorney General demand seeking donor information, patient and provider records, internal communications and other documents. The attorney general's demand said there was reason to believe the nonprofit may have violated several state laws. Planned Parenthood disputed that premise, described the investigation as politically motivated and said it has not provided gender-affirming care to minors or telehealth abortion services.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The filing publicly revealed a broad investigation and a dispute over access to donor and confidential healthcare information. It does not establish wrongdoing, but the investigation and resulting litigation could affect operations, privacy obligations and donor confidence.
