Raleigh Rescue Mission opens major residential expansion for women and children experiencing homelessness

NC Newsline reported that Raleigh Rescue Mission opened The Garden, a $41 million Knightdale campus with 101 private residential rooms, on-site child care, life-skills services and job-readiness programming. The charity says the campus can eventually serve as many as 350 women and children daily, up from 60 at its former downtown space, while the downtown men's capacity rises from 40 to 120.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The expansion substantially increases longer-term residential capacity for women, children and men in a county where more than 1,000 people were counted as homeless during the January 2026 point-in-time count. The project materially changes the organization's service scale and physical infrastructure.

Organization response

Luckett said The Garden is a structured, longer-term back-to-work program rather than an emergency overnight shelter. He said participants will receive support intended to help them obtain employment, transportation and housing.
