Charleston approves transfer of former Save A Lot property to Mountaineer Food Bank
Charleston City Council approved a novation agreement on October 5 transferring the former Save A Lot property at 748 Virginia Street West to Mountaineer Food Bank. The food bank will assume the ARPA-funded project’s obligations, with $440,000 in federal funding already invested. Its first planned use is a volunteer center for preparing and packing food for distribution through partner agencies.

Donor relevance
Why this matters
The transfer gives the food bank a permanent Charleston property and could expand volunteer and food-distribution capacity in the Kanawha Valley. It also places responsibility for completing a publicly funded property project with the charity.
