Red Cross says Lowcountry blood supply remains vulnerable despite improvement
WTOC reported that the American Red Cross described the blood supply in South Carolina’s Lowcountry as still vulnerable after a severe summer decline. The organization planned 75 donation opportunities and said it hoped to collect 12,500 blood donations and 3,000 platelet donations over the following month to meet hospital needs.
Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.
Donor relevance
Why this matters
Continued blood-supply vulnerability is a program-capacity signal for donors because the Red Cross is a major supplier of blood products to hospitals and depends on volunteer donors and collection infrastructure.

Who reported or established this
WTOC reported the warning and collection targets based on statements from the American Red Cross and its Lowcountry chapter executive director, Meaghan Silsby.
Evidence limits
What remains unverified
No Halo has not independently established regional inventory levels, the size of the supply gap, whether the collection targets will be reached or whether hospitals experienced shortages.
Right of reply
Organization response
The Red Cross said supplies had improved but remained vulnerable, particularly for platelets, and cited school schedules and hurricane-season disruptions as collection challenges.
