Chronicle reports American Immigration Council's belonging tool is helping nonprofits revise programs
The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported that the American Immigration Council and Over Zero developed the open-source Belonging Barometer to measure social connection, psychological safety and community agency. The Maybelle Center in Portland has adapted the survey, collected participant suggestions and changed activities in response. The tool's 2026 national results also identified substantial gaps in people's understanding of and influence over local decisions.
Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.
Donor relevance
Why this matters
The barometer is a meaningful evaluation innovation in an area where nonprofits often struggle to measure results. Its open-source design and use by another service organization suggest potential value beyond the council's own programs.
