Federal complaint alleges Home At Last founder diverted more than $7.5 million in public homelessness funds

The U.S. Justice Department charged founder Michael Young with wire fraud, alleging that he used sham vendors, forged records and self-dealing transactions to divert more than $7.5 million from publicly funded homelessness programs. Prosecutors alleged that money went toward unrelated real estate, a nightclub, travel and vintage vehicles. The Justice Department said Home At Last received more than $118 million in public funds and that the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority canceled its contracts in June 2026.
