North Star Child Advocacy Center adds trauma therapy and prepares to expand into another county
WTAP reported that North Star recently added a trauma-focused therapist and was working to add Gilmer County to its existing five-county service territory. Its new executive director also outlined plans for expanded aftercare, family navigation and medical capacity. He said school-based body-safety presentations had reached more than 4,000 children and led to at least 90 disclosures of abuse.

Donor relevance
Why this matters
Adding therapy and another county could increase access for children who otherwise travel to distant advocacy centers. The reported school-disclosure pattern suggests prevention presentations may also be identifying children who need intervention.
Attribution
Who reported or established this
WTAP reported the staffing and expansion plans through an interview with Executive Director Fred Hammack. Hammack supplied the participation and disclosure figures.
Evidence limits
What remains unverified
No Halo has not independently verified the 4,000-participant and 90-disclosure figures, the causal connection between presentations and disclosures, the completion date for adding Gilmer County, or whether funding has been secured for the proposed medical and family-support expansions.
Right of reply
Organization response
North Star’s executive director said the center had added a trauma-based therapist, intended to expand therapy and aftercare, wanted stronger family-support and medical services, and acknowledged that further expansion depended on funding.
