Justice Department audit questioned $46,439 in costs reported by Freedom, Inc.

A U.S. Department of Justice Office of Inspector General audit identified $46,439 in questioned costs connected to victim-assistance funds subawarded through the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Reporting on the audit said the findings included inadequate supporting records, expenditure-tracking weaknesses, employee-timekeeping problems and unrecovered security deposits. The federal report listed seven recommendations. The audit also recognized that Freedom, Inc. provides services to sexual-violence survivors.

Freedom, Inc. said it was working to locate receipts and other records and would remedy expenditures if support could not be found.
