Federal prosecutors say Miracle-Ear Foundation and its affiliated company settled PPP eligibility allegations for $6.47 million
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced that Miracle-Ear Foundation and Miracle-Ear, Inc. agreed jointly to pay $6,473,222 to resolve False Claims Act allegations involving three Paycheck Protection Program loans. The government alleged that the entities were ineligible because of their affiliation with the much larger Amplifon corporate group and falsely certified their eligibility. The foundation received one of the loans, totaling $58,100. The settlement does not allocate the total payment between the company and foundation, and neither entity admitted liability.
Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.
Donor relevance
Why this matters
The settlement resolves substantial federal claims involving the foundation’s pandemic-relief eligibility and its relationship with a multinational corporate group. Donors should not assume that the entire settlement amount is attributable to the foundation, because the resolution jointly covers two company loans and one much smaller foundation loan.
