Wisconsin Watch reports Milwaukee anti-poverty agency has $2,770 in cash and is considering bankruptcy options
Wisconsin Watch and Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service reported that the Social Development Commission disclosed a preliminary 2026 net deficit of just under $3.5 million and about $2,770 in cash. Two board members resigned, while United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County and the Milwaukee Area Labor Council withdrew future support and cited governance concerns. The board was scheduled to review bankruptcy restructuring alternatives after services had remained largely shut down since 2024.
