Heritage Behavioral Health Center permanently closed Decatur’s 26-year-old Oasis day center
Heritage Behavioral Health Center announced the permanent closure of its Oasis Day and Resource Center after suspending services on September 24. Oasis provided showers, laundry, mail access, referrals and daytime shelter for people experiencing homelessness. Heritage said it is redirecting resources toward rising demand for mental health care, substance-use treatment, crisis intervention, housing support and integrated health care.

Donor relevance
Why this matters
The closure removes a longstanding source of basic hygiene, mail and daytime services for unhoused Decatur residents. Donors and local partners may need to assess whether other providers have enough capacity to absorb displaced clients.

Organization response
CEO Mary Garrison said community needs have changed and Heritage is concentrating resources on areas of greatest need. She said Heritage will continue serving people experiencing homelessness, and Oasis staff will provide limited access for patrons retrieving mail and belongings through November 8.
