Heritage permanently closed its Oasis day center, leaving some homelessness services without immediate replacements
Heritage Behavioral Health Center made permanent the September 24 suspension of its Oasis Day and Resource Center in Decatur. Oasis had provided showers, laundry, mail access, referrals and daytime shelter. Heritage said it was redirecting its workforce and resources toward mental-health and substance-use services, but acknowledged that lockers and some shower and laundry services did not yet have complete replacements.

Donor relevance
Why this matters
The permanent closure removes a low-barrier access point for people experiencing homelessness. Local partners were asked to absorb demand, but reporting identified immediate gaps in basic hygiene, storage and daytime services that can affect safety, employment and access to assistance.

Organization response
Heritage said the decision was not caused by financial hardship. It described the closure as responsible stewardship intended to focus expertise, staff and funding on mental-health crises and substance-use needs. Heritage said it would help clients retrieve mail and belongings and obtain referrals during a 30-day transition.
