The Third Place QC plans major move after daily demand rose far beyond initial expectations

WVIK reported that the Rock Island drop-in center planned to move from about 2,500 square feet to a 6,037-square-foot former train station by December 1. The nonprofit expected about 40 guests a week when it opened in 2025 but said it quickly served about 70 people a day and now sees as many as 150 daily. The organization changed operating hours to accommodate lines before opening and reserve afternoon time for housing applications, crisis assistance and other intensive work.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The reported demand pattern suggests the current site and staffing model are substantially undersized. The move would more than double public space for an organization serving up to 150 unhoused or housing-unstable people a day.

Who reported or established this

WVIK reporter Jonathan Turner documented the current operation and interviewed co-founder Christie Adamson. Guest counts, service patterns and the proposed timeline were supplied by the organization.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently verified daily attendance records, the financing or final terms of the move, whether the December 1 target will be met, or whether staffing and funding will grow enough to operate the larger site safely.

Right of reply

Organization response

The organization said the larger property required little renovation but needed security cameras, lighting, landscaping and operational setup. It acknowledged the deadline was aggressive and said monetary donations were its largest current need.
