Abundant Blessings executive director agreed to plead guilty after earlier homelessness-fund fraud charges

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that Abundant Blessings executive director Alexander Soofer signed a plea agreement admitting to wire fraud and money laundering. According to the agreement, Soofer obtained $23 million in public homelessness funding, obtained at least some of it through fraud, and kept at least $2 million for personal enrichment and unrelated businesses. The plea agreement follows federal charges announced earlier in 2026. A court had not yet accepted the expected guilty plea as of the report.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The signed plea agreement materially strengthens the evidence behind earlier allegations involving the charity's former use of public homelessness funds. It also raises serious questions for donors about financial controls, executive oversight and whether charitable resources reached intended beneficiaries.
