Public Citizen sues federal agencies for records concerning Trust for the National Mall’s management of ballroom donations

Public Citizen announced a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the National Park Service and Department of the Interior seeking records about the collection and management of a reported $330 million in private donations for a White House ballroom project. Public Citizen said an agreement called for the agencies and the Trust for the National Mall to communicate about donor eligibility, foreign connections, legal violations and actual or apparent conflicts of interest. The lawsuit targets the agencies’ alleged failure to provide records; it does not accuse the Trust of violating the agreement.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The reported donation total is large, and the requested records concern donor screening, conflicts and transparency in a prominent public-private fundraising arrangement involving a charity.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

Public Citizen made the claims about the agencies’ response deadline and described the donor-vetting provisions in an agreement it said it obtained through earlier litigation.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not established the final amount received, the identities or eligibility of donors, whether any donation was improperly accepted, whether the Trust failed to follow the agreement, or the merits and outcome of the FOIA lawsuit.
