World Central Kitchen reports serving more than one million meals after Colombia earthquake

World Central Kitchen reported that it began serving food less than 12 hours after an August 10 earthquake in western Colombia. The charity said it served 30,000 meals by the third day, more than 100,000 by day seven and more than one million over the full response. It also reported helping establish 26 community kitchens with local restaurants, hotels, culinary schools and volunteers.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The reported speed and scale represent a major emergency-feeding operation. The creation of locally operated kitchens may leave useful response capacity after the charity’s field teams depart.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

World Central Kitchen reported the meal totals, response timeline and number of community kitchens in its own operational account.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently verified the meal counts, kitchen operations, beneficiary reach, costs or partner records. The consulted source is the charity’s own report rather than an independent evaluation.

Right of reply

Organization response

The publication is World Central Kitchen’s response. It said local partners enabled rapid service across multiple affected regions and that the field operation was winding down after serving more than one million meals.
