Matthew's Hope reports cutting food-pantry and daily services as demand and costs exceed available funds
WESH reported that Matthew's Hope reduced some daily services, primarily at its donation-supported food pantry, after spending about $468,000 more than budgeted. The organization said it serves roughly 1,300 people each week and is registering about 100 new clients weekly, compared with approximately 15 in earlier years. Its medical, mental-health, transportation, food and other programs could face additional cuts.

Donor relevance
Why this matters
The reductions affect basic services for people experiencing homelessness in Orange and Brevard counties. Empty pantry shelves and the possibility of further cuts indicate an active service-delivery strain rather than a routine fundraising appeal.
Attribution
Who reported or established this
Founder and CEO Scott Billue supplied the budget, demand and service figures to WESH and described the decision to reduce services. WESH independently reported conditions at the food pantry.

What remains unverified
No Halo has not independently audited the reported deficit, client counts or cost increases and has not established the full list, duration or beneficiary impact of current and possible future cuts.
Right of reply
Organization response
Billue said rising demand, higher food and fuel costs and declining donations forced the organization to pull back so it could continue operating. He warned that more cuts could occur before the end of 2026 unless conditions improve.
