Prince George’s County officials request return of $7.6 million held by Edward Charles Foundation and seek an outside audit

The Baltimore Banner reported that the Prince George’s County executive and County Council chair asked Edward Charles Foundation, the fiscal sponsor for Community on the Frontline, to return $7.6 million plus any additional unspent county money and stop further spending or transfers. The county executive also requested an outside audit of the organizations’ handling of the funds, including remaining balances, fiscal-sponsor fees and services reportedly delivered. The money had been intended to support community programs in an underserved council district.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

Freezing and recalling more than $7.6 million could materially delay programs intended for Prince George’s County residents. The requested audit also raises significant but unresolved questions about fiscal sponsorship, fees, grant oversight and whether promised services were delivered.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

The request and audit plan were attributed by The Baltimore Banner to County Executive Aisha Braveboy, Council Chair Krystal Oriadha, their joint letter and the county executive’s public statements.
