St. Joseph officials reported a new Bartlett Center lease default as its board planned dissolution

The City of St. Joseph said the Bartlett Center missed lease payments from July through September 2026 and owed $8,715.40. City officials also said the nonprofit's board had stated that it planned to dissolve. The city reported that earlier Community Development Block Grant reimbursement requests had sometimes been submitted late or incorrectly, delaying payments.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

A dissolution would end a long-running local provider of child care and after-school services. The lease default and grant-administration problems also affect public funds, employees, families and creditors.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

The debt, payment history and reported dissolution plan were attributed by KQ2 to statements from the City of St. Joseph. Former executive LaTonya Williams disputed the completeness of the city's account.

Evidence limits

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently confirmed the final debt, reviewed the requested grant documentation, established why each submission was delayed or located a completed legal dissolution filing.

Right of reply
