PhillyCAM reports Drexel's planned Academy museum closure as advocates campaign to stop it

A September 20 PhillyCAM program reported that Drexel University had announced the closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences museum, effective September 27. The program interviewed an organizer allied with the Save the Academy coalition, which had held a rally and sought intervention from Philadelphia officials. The Academy remains a separate nonprofit subsidiary of Drexel University.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

Closing the public museum would end routine visitor and education access to a longstanding natural-history institution, even if collections and research functions are preserved. The decision affects families, schools, members, employees and donors supporting public science education.

Attribution

Who reported or established this

PhillyCAM reported the planned closure and interviewed Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia president Alex Palma, who was identified as an ally of the Save the Academy coalition. The closure itself was attributed to Drexel's announcement.

What remains unverified

No Halo has not independently established the complete financial basis for the decision, the number or status of affected employees, the final disposition of every public program, or whether advocacy and government action will alter the closure plan.
