Goodwill NYNJ says it received more than $12 million in assets to continue programs of a dissolved disability-services nonprofit

Goodwill NYNJ announced that it received more than $12 million in funds, intellectual property and other assets from the Institute for Career Development, which closed in August 2024. New York State approved the transfer on June 18, 2026. Goodwill said the resources will support vocational training, school-transition services and accessible GED testing for people with disabilities in New York City.

Status matters. This page records a sourced development, not a completed No Halo investigation. An allegation is not a finding. Dismissals, settlements, judgments, corrections and final outcomes remain distinct.

Donor relevance

Why this matters

The transfer preserves charitable assets after the closure of a 107-year-old organization and gives Goodwill substantial resources to expand disability employment and education services. Donors may want to monitor whether the transferred assets produce the promised continuation and expansion of services.
